Electrical and Electronics Engineering:
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, is the branch of
engineering concerned with the practical applications of electricity in all its
forms, including those of the field of electronics.
Electronics engineering is that branch of electrical
engineering concerned with the uses of the electromagnetic spectrum and with
the application of such electronic devices as integrated circuits, transistors,
and vacuum tubes.
In engineering practice, the distinction between electrical
engineering and electronics is based on the comparative strength of the
electric currents used. In this sense, electrical engineering is the branch
dealing with “heavy current”—that is, electric light and power systems and
apparatuses—whereas electronics engineering deals with such “light current”
applications as wire and radio communication, the stored-program electronic
computer, radar, and automatic control systems.
The distinction between the fields has become less sharp
with technical progress. For example, in the high-voltage transmission of
electric power, large arrays of electronic devices are used to convert
transmission-line current at power levels in the tens of megawatts.
Moreover, in the regulation and control of interconnected
power systems, electronic computers are used to compute requirements much more
rapidly and accurately than is possible by manual methods.
Job Prospects:
Electrical and electronics engineers are involved in a wide
variety of technology ranging from huge global positioning systems which can
pinpoint the location of a moving vehicle to gigantic electrical power generators.
Electrical and electronics engineers are responsible for
designing, developing, testing as well supervising the production of electrical
and electronic equipment and machinery. Broadcast and
telecommunication systems, electric motors, controls of
machinery, lights and wiring in
building complexes, vehicles, aircraft, radar and navigation
systems, power generation, control
and transmission devices which are used by electric
utilities are all examples of equipment
built by these engineers.
Electrical and Electronics engineers may choose to
specialize in various areas like power generation, transmission and
distribution; communications; manufacture of electrical equipment etc or a one
particular speciality within this area; foe e.g. industrial robot control
systems or aviation electronics.

maintenance schedules and charts.
Testing equipment and machinery, solving operation problems,
estimating time and cost of electrical and electronic products also come under
their job.
Course Description:
The institute offers Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical
and Electronics Engineers course. The duration of complete course is four
years, which contains eight semesters. Electrical power is an Integral part of
modern life. It is impossible to visualize the world without electricity. There
has been rapid advancement in generation, transmission and distribution
technologies, opening up new frontiers. The degree of sophistication of control
technology has reached a stage where an intricate knowledge of programming,
hardware and mathematical analysis is mandatory.
Subjects on Network theory, Control systems, protection and
power systems give the basic
exposure to electrical fundamentals, Whereas, analogue and
digital circuits, microprocessor,
Digital Signal Processing, advanced programming languages
makes attractive blend of
electrical and electronics, thereby, creating excellent
placement opportunities in very sectors.
Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering:
The Department of Electrical and Electronics, is one of the
oldest departments at R V College of Engineering. Established in the year 1963,
the department has well qualified; passionate and dedicated staff, most of who
are engaged in path breaking research and development.
The Course at the department, is a healthy amalgam of Power
Engineering, Electronics and Computers; comprehensive and in keeping modern
trends of Electrical and Electronics Engineering education. Course pattern at
the department is planned to keep the students up to date with the recent
trends and shifting technological paradigms, making them industry ready.
The course was accredited by National Board of Accreditation
(NBA). The department has a total of 21 faculty members with various
specializations, out of which 8 are PhD holders and all remaining (13) are
pursuing PhD. The average experience of the faculty is very high. Students are
required to undergo quizzes in addition to assignments and self study
evaluation. They are evaluated on regular basis there by making the course
learning and just not grade oriented.
