Electrical and Electronic Engineering:
Electrical and Electronic Engineering is a very important
part of your everyday life. The study of Electrical and Electronic Engineering
can involve large amounts of power (eg power and control engineering) and large
devices (eg power stations and electric vehicles) or small amounts of power (eg
computer, communications and information engineering) and small devices (eg MP3
players and cell phones).
Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) covers the
generation, storage and use of power. Think about how many items in your daily
life use power (mains, batteries, petrol/ motors or even solar panels).
Electrical and Electronic engineers are involved in the
analysis of existing systems (whether electrical, electronic or computer
systems) and they are often involved in creating and designing new products and
systems for manufacturing industries.
Most astronomical observatories employ Electrical engineers
to design their telescopes, other optical instruments and do advanced signal
processing. Graduates from this department are doing these things.
Job Prospects:
Electrical and electronics engineers are involved in a wide
variety of technology ranging from huge global positioning systems which can
pinpoint the location of a moving vehicle to gigantic electrical power
generators.
These engineers are responsible for designing, developing,
testing as well supervising the production of electrical and electronic
equipment and machinery. Broadcast and telecommunication systems, electric
motors, controls of machinery, lights and wiring in building complexes,
vehicles, aircraft, radar and navigation systems, power generation, control and
transmission devices which are used by electric utilities are all examples of
equipment built by these engineers.
These engineers may also work in fields which relate to
computers and IT. However, those engineers who deal exclusively with computer
hardware are called computer hardware engineers- an engineering specialty with
is discussed separately in the Handbook.
Department Profile:
The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
came into existence in the year 1979. The institute is now headed by Dr.
Pramila M.E., Ph.D, supported by a highly qualified and dedicated staff.
In this age of development in technology it is we the
electrical & electronics engineers who hold the key to development with our
horizon ranging from power generation to microprocessors. Founded in 1979, the
department boasts of well equipped labs & a well qualified faculty. The
department has endeavored in organizing regular field trips to various
industries hence giving ample industrial exposure, thus integrating practical
& theoretical knowledge.
To develop the overall personality of the students the
Electrical Engineering Association (EEA) was formed. EEA holds various
seminars, technical talks & personality development programs. Several
technical institutions like CPRI, PRDA etc. have conducted various lectures
& workshops. To add to the credibility of the department various project
papers have been acknowledged by the industry. Thus the department has been
successful in providing the students with the requisite knowledge required for
a successful career.
Course Description:
Bangalore Institute of Technology offers full time B.E. in
Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Course duration is four years.
Electrical Engineering is a field of engineering that
generally deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics, and
electromagnetism.
Electrical Engineers design, develop and maintain electrical
control systems and/or components to required specifications, focusing on
economy, safety, reliability, quality and sustainability.
Electrical Engineers are employed in many industries, with
the main areas being in electronics, IT, manufacturing, power, transport, and
construction and building services. Opportunities are also found in
telecommunications, research and development, and petrochemicals.
