Structural Engineering:
Structural engineering is a branch of Civil engineering
which is one of the oldest engineering disciplines. Even though, Structural
Engineering is considered a speciality of civil engineering its applications are
extremely diverse.
Structural engineering is among the oldest types of
engineering, dating back to the first instance of tree branches being lashed
together with vines to make a shelter. Throughout recorded history, people have
been designing and building increasingly larger and more sophisticated
structures, from primitive huts to the International Space Station.
Structural engineering — a speciality within the field of
civil engineering — focuses on the framework of structures, and on designing
those structures to withstand the stresses and pressures of their environment
and remain safe, stable and secure throughout their use. In other words,
structural engineers make sure that buildings don't fall down and bridges don't
collapse.
Job Prospects of a Structural Engineer:
Structural engineers are primarily concerned with designing
aesthetically pleasing buildings and structures that are safe and capable of
withstanding the elements to which they will be exposed.
Structural engineer is a multi-disciplined engineer qualified
in Civil, Mechanical or Architectural engineering. Structural engineers help to
design most structures including houses, theatres, sports venues, hospitals,
office blocks, bridges, oil rigs, space satellites, ships and aircraft.
Structural engineers design structures so as to withstand stress and pressure,
caused by environmental disasters, weather and human use. They will monitor the
progression of an architectural project from initial stages to completion.
Key tasks include:
- Preparing reports, designs and drawings
- Making calculations about loads and stresses
- Selecting appropriate construction materials
- Providing technical advice
- Obtaining planning and/or building regulations approval
- Liaising with relevant professional staff
- Monitoring and inspecting work undertaken by contractors
- Administering contracts
- Managing projects
- Inspecting properties to check conditions/foundations

Structural engineers "design roof framing (beams,
rafters, joists, trusses), floor framing (floor decks, joists, beams, trusses,
girders), arches, columns, braces, frames, foundations and walls,"
according to the National Council of Structural Engineers Association.
PLACEMENT AND TRAINING DEPARTMENT:
Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology has a well
established Training and Placement Cell and offers placement opportunities to
its students as an extended activity.
The Placement cell of NCET is focused and has a vision of
100% placement.
The top companies visit the campus for IT circuit branches,
Civil, Mechanical, Biotech and maximum numbers of eligible students get placed.
The cell has a dedicated team of coordinators who maintain a
well structured database which gets updated time to time and it is made
available to the company as per the company norms.
The placement cell not only conducts regular in house
training but also organizes placement training by the industry experts.
The in house training includes Aptitude (Logical,
Analytical, Technical and Verbal), Group Discussions, and Mock Interviews to
make the students well versed with the placement process.
The placement cell also identifies the best Industry Expert
and conducts workshops and seminars so the students get to know the latest
industry requirements. It not only helps them to keep themselves updated but
boosts their confidence.
