East West Institute
of Technology (EWIT) was set up in the year 2001, in the enviable garden
city of Bangalore, as a jewel in the crown of East West Group of Institutions
under the banner of Subramanya Educational Society established nearly four
decades ago.
This Society and its Group of Institutions are the dream
projects of its Founder Chairman Late. Sri C.M.Nagaraj a visionary, an
acknowledged educationalist, a philanthropist, a social worker and an elected

Course Description:
The Masters program in Structural Engineering aims at
training graduate Civil Engineers to take up the mantle in the field. The
program involves higher education in the field of production and usage of heat
and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and
tools.
Department has established a fully fledged research centre
as 3 recognized guides and 4 research scholars perceiving doctoral studies.
Structural Engineering:
Structural engineering is among the oldest types of
engineering, dating back to the first instance of tree branches being lashed
together with vines to make a shelter. Throughout recorded history, people have
been designing and building increasingly larger and more sophisticated
structures, from primitive huts to the International Space Station.
Structural engineering — a specialty within the field of
civil engineering — focuses on the framework of structures, and on designing
those structures to withstand the stresses and pressures of their environment
and remain safe, stable and secure throughout their use. In other words,
structural engineers make sure that buildings don't fall down and bridges don't
collapse.
Job Prospects of a Structural Engineer:
Structural engineers "design roof framing (beams,
rafters, joists, trusses), floor framing (floor decks, joists, beams, trusses,
girders), arches, columns, braces, frames, foundations and walls,"
according to the National Council of Structural Engineers Association.
Structural engineers are primarily concerned with designing
aesthetically pleasing buildings and structures that are safe and capable of
withstanding the elements to which they will be exposed.
Structural engineer is a multi-disciplined engineer
qualified in Civil, Mechanical or Architectural engineering. Structural
engineers help to design most structures including houses, theatres, sports
venues, hospitals, office blocks, bridges, oil rigs, space satellites, ships
and aircraft. Structural engineers design structures so as to withstand stress
and pressure, caused by environmental disasters, weather and human use. They
will monitor the progression of an architectural project from initial stages to
completion.
