VIT admission Eligibility criteria

Qualifying Examination:
Candidates appearing for the VITEEE-2014 should have either completed or shall be appearing in 2014, in any one of the following qualifying examinations:
The final examination of the 10+2 system of Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the State Board; Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE, New Delhi); The Council for Indian School Certificate Examination (ISCE, New Delhi).
Intermediate or Two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva.
General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London/Cambridge/Srilanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
Candidates who have studied in Regular, Full Time and Formal Education are alone eligible to apply.

Eligibility Criteria in the Qualifying Examination:
Candidates appearing for the VITEEE in 2014 should have secured an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate).

The average marks obtained in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB) in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for the following categories:
Candidates belonging to SC/ST
Candidates hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
CERTIFICATE TO PROVE NATIVITY should be produced at the time of counselling, failing which they will not be considered for admission.
Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible for all the 14 B.Tech.

Programmes.
Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible for B.Tech. Bio-Medical Engineering and Biotechnology programmes. They are also eligible for B.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (Spec. in Bioinformatics) but after joining, registering Mathematics as bridge course is mandatory.

Age Limit :
Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1st July 1992 are eligible to apply for VITEEE-2014. The date of birth as recorded in the High School / SSC / X Certificate will be considered authentic. Candidates should produce this certificate in original as a proof of their age at the time of counselling, failing for which they will be disqualified.

Admission
Students are admitted to undergraduate courses on basis of their merit in the Karnataka CET test, or in the COMED-K undergraduate test. Students are also admitted through a management quota, which places no merit requirement; students are directly admitted to a course upon the orders of the college management (in this case, the managing trust). There is a lateral entry scheme in place, by which students holding diploma degrees can enter directly to the second year of study in engineering. Students, upon graduating, receive a Bachelor of Engineering or a Bachelor of Architecture degree. The total undergraduate strength allotted to the college is 3160.

Students are admitted to postgraduate courses on basis of their GATE test scores, as well as on their Post Graduate Karnataka CET scores. Students, upon graduating receive a Master of Technology, Master of Computer Applications or a Master of Architecture degree. The total postgraduate strength allotted to the college is 616.

Recognition
RVCE has been recognised as a centre of excellence by the Union Government of India. In 2008, the college had the highest number of gold medal winners among colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, a gold medal being awarded to the highest ranked student for a given discipline. The college's undergraduate course in mechanical engineering is the state's first degree course in a private institution to be accredited by the National Board of Accreditation.

The college has been ranked 33 in Outlook India's Top Engineering Colleges of 2012 and 22nd in the country in rankings by The Week in 2013. Project Garuda RVCE Supermileage team participated in the Bengaluru International Auto Expo 2009 and demonstrated their fuel efficient car. The Garuda Team also won the Young Achiever 2008 award, instituted by Brigade Group and Rotary Bangalore Midtown.
Project Vyoma team have conceptualised and designed an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) to participate in competitions held by SAE’s student chapter, named AERODESIGN. The students participated in the Aero Design international competition conducted by SAE International, held at Georgia, USA, from April 3-5, 2009. The students were recognised for their outstanding performance by completing all events of SAE Aero Design. The students secured 20th place out of 43 university teams.
Project Chimera team unveiled the prototype of India's first plug-in hybrid car for city roads. This is a unique collaborative effort between University and Industry to facilitate innovation. The project was undertaken by 11 engineering students, supported by companies such as REVA, National Instruments  and Robert Bosch. 
Project Ashwa team have built a formula racing car and participated in three international automobile competitions conducted by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) with headquarters in Michigan (USA). Project ASHWA has won following awards: Best Endeavour award at Formula SAE Australasia, held at Melbourne, Australia in Dec 2005; 1st prize in cost event at Formula SAE Australasia, held at Melbourne, Australia in Dec 2005; Young Achiever’s Award for 2007 by Rotary International.

Mechanical Engineering (M.E.) in RVCE

Mechanical Engineering is the mother of all branches. The contribution of this branch is enormous in the growth of technology over the centuries. The scope of the course varies from material research to machinery development, Nano Technology, Smart materials, Aerospace Technology, Missiles technology, CAD/CAM, FMS, CIM, Automation and such other interrelated developments. The job opportunities are in aero space, Automotive and Manufacturing sectors apart from research establishments. Many firms developing software packages for mechanical components and products are also recruiting the mechanical engineers. The skills needed for this course are strong computational mathematics, creativity and analytical abilities. The areas of study includes Manufacturing processes, Mechanical vibrations, Mechatronics, Heat and Mass Transfer, Tool Engineering and Design, Design of machine elements, Computer Integrated Manufacturing and Robotics.

The Department has well qualified and experienced faculty and technically competent supporting staff on its rolls. Eight faculty members have doctoral degrees.
